Trezor Wallet Setup® — Trezor.io/start

10 slides • approx. 10 minutes total • full-color

Overview

What you'll learn

This short presentation walks you through securely setting up a Trezor hardware wallet using the official start page: Trezor.io/start. We'll cover unboxing, initial device configuration, seed backup, firmware checks, day-to-day use, and recovery best practices.

Presenter note: keep each slide ~1 minute.

Slide 2 — Unboxing & inspection

Hygiene & tamper checks

Before powering on

Inspect tamper evidence, seal integrity, and packaging. Only proceed if packaging looks factory-sealed. Read included documentation. Connect to a computer only after confirming the box is untouched. This prevents pre-configured devices from being used maliciously.

Tip: Keep packaging until setup is complete.

Slide 3 — Go to the official start page

Why use Trezor.io/start

The official start page contains up-to-date firmware, setup tools, and verified downloads. Always type the URL manually or use a bookmarked link; avoid search-engine links that might be malicious. Click the official link shown earlier or paste https://trezor.io/start into your browser.

Security reminder: check the TLS padlock and certificate details.

Slide 4 — Initialize & install firmware

Follow on-screen steps

Connect your Trezor when prompted. The website will guide you through installing the latest firmware. Never install firmware from other sources. Allow the update to complete fully. After firmware is validated, choose to create a new wallet (recommended) or restore an existing one.

If firmware installation fails, retry and consult official support.

Slide 5 — PIN and optional passphrase

Protect local access

You will be prompted to create a PIN on the device. Choose a PIN you can remember but that is not easily guessable. The passphrase feature adds a hidden-wallet layer — powerful but risky if lost. Treat a passphrase like a separate secret: if you use it, store it securely.

Do not enter PIN or passphrase on any website.

Slide 6 — Recovery seed (backup)

Write it down, offline

The device will show a recovery seed (mnemonic). Write each word on the supplied recovery card or a secure metal backup. Do this offline, without photos or cloud storage. This seed is the ultimate key to your funds — anyone with it can restore your wallet. Store copies in separate secure locations to mitigate physical risk.

Recommended backup strategy

Use two geographically separated backups (e.g., home safe + safety deposit box) or a professionally made metal backup. Consider a Shamir Backup only if you understand its complexity.

Slide 7 — Verify & test

Always verify addresses on-device

When receiving funds, verify the receiving address on the Trezor screen — not only in the browser. Send a small test transaction first to confirm everything works before larger transfers. Use the device UI to confirm transaction details during spending operations.

Presenter note: demo a small receive/send flow if possible.

Slide 8 — Wallet apps & integrations

Use trusted software only

Trezor supports many wallets and dApps. Prefer official or well-known integrations (Trezor Suite, MetaMask, etc.). When connecting, ensure the website uses HTTPS and is the legitimate project site. Read integration documentation and understand the permissions the app requests.

Avoid unknown browser extensions and suspicious third-party apps.

Slide 9 — Recovery plan & security hygiene

Plan for loss, theft, or damage

Document a recovery plan: who can access backups, how to legally pass access to heirs, and where backups are stored. Regularly check backups for legibility. Keep firmware and apps updated, and beware phishing attempts that mimic Trezor pages.

Daily use tips

Use a dedicated, clean computer for large transactions and enable two-factor authentication where possible on services you access with the wallet.

Slide 10 — Summary & resources

Key takeaways

1) Always use Trezor.io/start for setup and firmware. 2) Verify device seals and firmware, create a secure PIN, and back up the recovery seed offline. 3) Verify addresses on the device and practice a small test transaction before large transfers.
